ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that destination resilience can be conceptualized through the lenses of community and organizational resilience. However, there are multiple views of destination resilience, including socio-ecological and urban, that cannot be ignored. Regardless of how researchers conceptualize destination resilience, two underlying aspects are the vulnerability and coping capacity of the destination to external stressors. In post-conflict destinations, these stressors are often exacerbated by the socio-cultural and political environments. This chapter proposes a model of destination resilience, based on vulnerability and coping capacity, grounded in linkages between community and organizational resilience. It is argues that the resilience of organizations feeds into the resilience of communities; in turn, both contribute to destination resilience. Organization resilience is very much dependent on the resilience of employees, while the resilience of communities is dependent on both the resilience of individuals and that of organizations.
