ABSTRACT

The Russian participation in the economic governance has been changed from the historical perspective. Russia has adapted to transform its participation in the international trading system from a rule-taker to rule-co-maker/co-keeper. Such a transformation has influenced the trade policy to a certain extent; however, trade flows have not changed dramatically.

The chapter reveals the linkages between the geopolitical position of Russia and its trade relations. It focuses on the period from 1991 to present days and undermines the different stages of the Russian trade policy development at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.
