ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we adapt work from the 2017 Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) symposium to think about designing the streets of the future. We argue that governments may never keep up with the fast pace of technological change, but they can plan better, faster, and smarter. We look at how a community might envision future streets and allocate the space on the road differently. We offer five lessons for engineers exploring what neighborhood streets might look like in the future.
