ABSTRACT

What does disruptive transport mean to city budget? Is the financial sustainability of our cities vulnerable in the new mobility future? For example, parking is a major revenue source in many cities. As the demand for parking declines in the future, how do we fill that budget gap? This chapter explores the financial implications of new transportation for cities. The chapter covers topics including parking, the business of transit, and speeding tickets. It provides an outline of the impacts of new mobility on local budgets and actions that cities can take to “future proof” their budgets.
