ABSTRACT

Creativity is often connected to the fields of art or drama in educational settings. However, theories related to the field of creativity differentiate between different ways it can be present in teaching and learning. There are also contesting approaches to drama teaching that focus on different aspects of learning and relate to theatre in different ways, placing emphasis either on learning about theatre or meaning-making through experiencing drama. This chapter looks at the possibilities of enhancing learning creatively through combining the theatre approach of contemporary playwright Edward Bond and the Living Through Approach to drama education (connected to the work of pioneers like Dorothy Heathcote, Gavin Bolton, David Davis, Cecily O’Neill). The chapter offers a drama lesson developed through an action research as an example and discusses its impact through the analysis of research data collected from participants.
