ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of the programming of social work in Indonesia, illustrating how social work education and the profession are run according to the country’s need. The history and development of social work in a country are unique to that country. Colonization does not always influence social work education and the profession in a post-colonial country. International collaboration and assistance through the United Nations has made a bigger contribution to the development of Indonesian social work. This chapter also highlights some of the imminent issues faced in the development of social work suitable for Indonesia’s multicultural society and elaborates the important research focus on local and international migration, transnational marriage, disaster and indigenization of social work theory and practice.
