Professional uncertainty among Japanese social workers

This chapter discusses how Japanese social work practice and education have developed to their present place within wider historical, social and political contexts. Furthermore, we explore to what extent social workers have established their position as professionals. We also examine the extent to which Japanese social workers have developed their professional identity within the context of Japanese social work by closely assessing the issue of ‘uncertainty’ embedded in their day-to-day practice.
