ABSTRACT

Diaspora diplomacy is a nascent field of policy and study. Nevertheless, it is becoming more integrated into public diplomacy. This chapter lays out how and why governments are engaging with diaspora public diplomacy actors as not only significant stakeholders but also important agents in foreign policy terrains. The chapter covers the diaspora diplomat rise in the context of a stronger rhetorical emphasis on collaboration and fostering citizen-to-citizen engagement through consensual and deliberative relationship building.
