ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses ethics and social issues related to public diplomacy, how humans interact as individuals within a society and without as measured through behavior. Izadi and Nelson apply ethical principles and philosophy to public diplomacy outcomes; ethics here are described as a branch of philosophy concerned with human conduct that evolved from the Greek word “ethos,” which means “way of living.” Ethical principles, which allow human beings to rationally examine moral judgments in terms of whether or not actions are justified, are explored with a call for adopting ethical standards of commitment to truth, two-way symmetrical public diplomacy, and values-based leadership.
