ABSTRACT

This book makes an original contribution to our knowledge of the world’s defence industries and fills a gap in the literature. It outlines the criteria used to select the countries in the study, based on the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Top 100 arms producers. Three questions are raised, namely, what is known, what is not known and what do we need to know for further understanding of these industries? There is a specific focus on data availability. Each chapter follows a standard format dealing with the structure, conduct and performance of each industry and the available data. Industries are critically assessed and there is consideration of future prospects and challenges.
