ABSTRACT

Reich gives a short introduction to the program of interactive constructivism, which was founded at the University of Cologne in the 1990s and has been continuously developed since then. This introduction is linked to a discussion about the importance of pragmatism as a source of a socially orientated constructivism as offered by Berger and Luckmann. Reich reconsiders Dewey’s concepts of experience and communication from the perspective of Berger and Luckmann’s social constructivism, thereby demonstrating how pragmatism and social constructivism might mutually enrich each other.
