ABSTRACT

Strategic human resource management (SHRM) is based on the presumption that organizations' human resources are of critical importance to the success of the organization. It concerns all philosophies, policies, and practices and processes applied in organizations to align the behavior of people with the strategic goals of the organization to achieve organizational performance. The chapter investigates similar HRM investments in employees on different levels in the employment relationship, such as the organization and differentiated groups with the organization. It describes idiosyncratic deals (i-deals) as a strategic choice within strategic HRM. The chapter also describes how employment relationships include elements of idiosyncrasy on different organizational levels. It provides an overview of the benefits and costs of introducing i-deals as part of the HR policies in the organization. The chapter addresses the benefits and costs of i-deals on the organizational, team, and individual worker levels. It discusses discuss the conditions for effectively managing i-deals in organizations.
