ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the research and practice implications in a range of topic areas in the work and organizational psychology field. It focuses on five significant trends. First, the role of personality testing and assessment centers in selecting employees. Second, the evidence is mounting in the field of technostress that email overload is becoming a major problem for people at work, and at all levels. Third, with the common mental disorders of anxiety, depression, and stress now the leading cause of sickness absence and presenteeism, being able to identify and cope with the stresses and strains of more demanding workloads is critical to employee health and performance. Fourth, research is showing that many employees, particularly millennials, are demanding more flexible working arrangements, so that they can get greater balance in their lives. Finally, it discusses how do we create more diversity in the workplace? The chapter also discusses number of important implications.
