ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the different modes of terrorist rehabilitation that have been employed by different regions in the world. The modes of rehabilitation provide a guide to establishing a framework and a starting point for any deradicalisation and rehabilitation programmes. This is based on practice and research by academics and practitioners. The book provides a reservoir of references, as the scope of cases is broader. It has thrice as many country-based case studies on deradicalisation and rehabilitation programmes, presenting real-life experiences with implemented rehabilitation programmes in various settings. The book addresses the gap between expectations and the ability to meet stated objectives. It examines the deradicalisation efforts pioneered by Danish authorities as well as other stakeholders with the intention to reintegrate radicalised individuals back into mainstream society.
