ABSTRACT

Latinx students are one of the fastest growing student groups in the American education system. Latinx cultures often are collectivisitic, especially the role of family. For example, students who reported a strong sense of familismo exhibit greater levels of academic effort. Latinx students endorsing social preference goals are more likely to engage in prosocial behaviors, whereas Latinx students with popularity goals exhibit more relational aggression. Further, Latina women may express social goals that are more communal in nature than Latino men. Current social goal work often omits Latinx students, though findings may better explain the educational environment of Latinx students.
