ABSTRACT

Cool goals include high social visibility and a sense of social savior faire; whether friendly or aloof, trendy or rebellious. Individuals with coolness have an ability to command attention from others. However, coolness is associated with a complex behavioral profile, indicating cool youths may be controversial figures in the peer group. This chapter presents evidence that coolness and social goals share longitudinal reciprocal relations. Future research should examine reciprocal relations of cool goals, social goals, and perceptions of social competence.
