ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the nascent field of graphic medicine. It provides a brief history of, and rationale for, the use of comics in the practice of health care. The chapter will describe how comics are being successfully used to engage and educate patients and practitioners, as well as potentially improve communication and clinical reasoning. The authors also gesture to the future potential of graphic medicine.
