ABSTRACT

In most modern views of the history of medicine, pre-Enlightenment era “cures” have been regarded as ineffective, if not “backwards.” Recently there have been some revaluations that saw the scientific examination of medieval remedies with remarkable results. This chapter explores the potential which such remedies may have for the future of modern pharmacology and medicine.
