ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author tries to convey to the reader his view of the main trends, difficulties, challenges, and achievements of that period, highlighting the participation of the main committees and colleagues involved in different areas. The following strategic goals were proposed in support of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA)'s mission: to encourage the development and improvement of good analytic practice; to strengthen the relationship of the IPA with its members, analysts in training, constituent organizations, and regional bodies; and to expand the relationship with the society at large. In order to achieve these goals, the author established several new committees, kept some of the existing ones, and disbanded a few, as any new administration usually does. One of authors' priorities was to make the IPA more approachable in its relationship with individual members, societies, and regional bodies.
