ABSTRACT

I would like to close the conference by thanking the speakers, the chairs, and the audience for making this a wonderful occasion. We have had two days of intelligent, sophisticated debate on a very complex and fascinating topic and many of us will carry a lot away from these discussions. As I said before, the proceedings will be published in a book by Karnac, so do look out for this on their website and the Royal College website. On behalf of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, I would like to thank all of our partner organizations who helped to run this conference: the Centre for Psychotherapy in Belfast, the British Psychoanalytic Society, the Northern Ireland Association for the Study of Psychoanalysis, and the Northern Ireland Institute of Human Relations. I would also like to thank some of our supporters: the Department of Health, the Northern Ireland Assembly, Belfast City Council, and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for their support. I would like to thank the Hilton Hotel, who did a tremendous job in terms of organizing the meeting and excellent hospitality. I would also like to thank Savilles Audio Visual. On Wednesday, we had an anxiety over how we were going to make things work given the threat of the volcanic ash, and I think things worked very well indeed. Please do not forget to fill 226in your feedback forms. There is still a chance to get to City Hall this evening, and the tour is at 6.45 p.m., meal at 7.30 p.m. Finally, but by no means least, I would like to thank the staff of the office of the Royal College. Nora and Lisa spent many months putting this conference together. We were doing really well until Monday, when the ash cloud reappeared, and it is extraordinary what Nora and Lisa did to make things work as well as they have. For those of you coming to the dinner tonight, I look forward to seeing you, and for those unable to come, this is our second very successful conference and perhaps it will become a tradition every two years. I look forward to seeing you in 2012. Now, tell your friends and colleagues about how wonderful Belfast is. Thank you!”
