ABSTRACT

The future of family business coaching warrants systematic exploration of conceptual development, as well as empirical research to provide evidence to support theoretical development. The key issues for coaching family business are related to different dynamic functions of a family, for example, interpersonal communication, differential attitudes among generations, family values and goals, leadership pattern, and support system/network. The central issue running through all chapters is the reliance on family dynamics to ensure an effective coaching practice for a family business. To summarize, the major issues indicate the complexity of understanding coaching concepts, particularly in relation to family business coaching. Family business coaching will benefit from ongoing discussions on various related areas in coaching psychology, especially in showing how coaching is different yet similar to many related concepts and practices. Family business coaching is a complex area, as it involves dual coaching of family and family business.
