ABSTRACT

I am seventy years old and I have recently retired from working full-time as a Jungian analyst in private practice, with a long commitment to and involvement in my professional association’s training activities. I must admit that there is still a small panicky voice inside me yelling, “What have you done?” Retirement is not a topic frequently taken up in psychoanalytic literature. Much is written about the skills and techniques needed to begin practicing as a psychotherapist, but little is written about ending a career as a psychotherapist. The aim of this paper is to clarify and share my personal thoughts and to stimulate interest in my unanswered questions.
