ABSTRACT

Bion understood psycho-analysis, found it to be in many respects inadequately used and set himself to do something about it. Psycho-analysis as Wilfred found it, lived with it, suffered with it, and was faithful to it absolutely, left much to be desired. As can easily be imagined the reactions of the people in Brazil were very varied. Many found it highly stimulating, some thought it intriguing, some considered it too difficult to take in, and various "old soldiers" simply declared it improbable. Since then the waves and the tides have swirled around in all the psycho-analytical circles in Brazil about what Wilfred had to say. But something important has happened and nothing will ever be the same again. In the beginning of author's analytic adventure he could hardly have imagined that which was to emerge from a quiet impression which occurred in London in the early 1950's.
