ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the importance and to situate unconscious and infinite thinking in the context of executive coaching. The psychological basis on which the role of an executive coach is entered and made moment-by-moment in the coaching session is critical. The chapter focuses on the coach, as opposed to the client. The assumption is that there will be a body of knowledge that each executive coach will have acquired in the course of their own personal and professional development. However, the basis on which executive coach came into the role will have an effect on the nature of the client sanction and on how the coaching role is fulfilled. The development of a frame of values, beliefs, and knowledge, and learning when to go beyond them, is a life-long task for any professional worker. Empathy relies on the ability to have the compassion to be able to identify with the other's suffering.
