ABSTRACT

Social dreaming is a method that focuses on dreaming with a view to understanding the social and institutional reality in which they live. This chapter offers some experiences conducted according to the social dreaming technique and draws some methodological, theoretical, and clinical suggestions from them. It provides some practical information on social dreaming sessions and on how the method can be used to explore and improve the way an institution or organization works. The chapter looks at the origins of social dreaming and places it within a historical framework. The report on the workshop in Raissa shows that it was useful to compare the "conscious images" of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis with the ones present in dreams. The workshop in Clarice Town adopted the same type of setting and timing as that in Raissa. An aspect of the work that strongly characterizes social dreaming is the search for social elements that surface in dreams.
