ABSTRACT
In the psychotherapy of the victim of sexual abuse the young boy was able to express extremes of sado-masochistic and gender confusions—to a degree, however, that made the most severe attacks on the capacity for containment and for preservation of the setting. The meeting gave Chris' mother, in particular, the opportunity to share much more than her concern about Chris having been sexually abused. In the clinical material given above, affectionate memories of the sweets could be attributed directly towards the assaulter, but angry feelings about what had happened were expressed in the first instance against me and only then could they be directed towards 'the man'. The crocodile came to be very important in this destructiveness, just as the crocodile play had been very important before the first holiday. There was an insight into this before a summer holiday.
