ABSTRACT

The group setting is widely used in transactional analysis counselling, which is oriented to different social and cultural contexts and is more allied with attention to supporting wellness rather than treating sickness. The counselling group addresses an increasingly widespread social and cultural need for structured spaces for sharing, in which a professional group leader facilitates, through the appropriate tools and stimuli, new experiences of learning and relationships. The group, carefully structured and competently conducted with a transactional analysis methodology, facilitates the building of a healthy, protective space, enhancing the change established in the counselling contract. The group planning comprises some moments of analysis of functional ego states, transactions, the stroke economy, and psychological games. The speaking sequence in the large group is not completely free; it is facilitated by the group leader who invites members to create connections starting from either common or completely diverging experiences.
