ABSTRACT

The counselling process enables clients or client systems to develop awareness, options and skills for problem management and personal development in daily life through the enhancement of their strengths and resources. The beginning of a counselling process sets the standards, models the way in which the counsellor and the client will shape their relationship, and thus is essential also in the way of considering the client's resources. To attend to the client's bodily reactions is a very efficient way to invite the client into the "here and now", thus stimulating the Adult ego state. The contracting itself, which is for transactional analysis counsellors a matter of course, is another great resource. In formulating the contract, the client already starts to envisage a future solution of her actual problem.
