ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how an organisational Parent system (OPS) can be developed, what the pitfalls are, and which actions are needed in order to build a positive corporate reputation. An OPS is a set of written and unwritten values, norms, and rules which are shared by all people in an organisation as a standard to guide behaviour in all situations. The model of OPS is helpful to analyse problems in organisations and to restore a healthy functioning moral value system in organisations. Most organisations invest in programmes based on the Adult system, for instance product and service development programmes, and the Child system, for instance employee development programmes. A lack of a clear organisational conscience system can damage the reputation of the organisation, as was the case with the banks, in construction, the food processing industry, in public institutions, in the church, and on the football field.
