ABSTRACT

From the age of fourteen we had been in and out of hospital with several different diagnoses like anorexia, bulimia, psychosis, depression, post-traumatic stress, alcoholism, and schizophrenia. This chapter presents the case study of Abi, Bonny and Judy and Suzy. Abi likes to paints lone figures—her paintings portray loneliness and emptiness; she often leaves a lot of blank canvas with just a lone figure in the corner. Bonny is one of the few alters who accept Dissociative Identity Disorder. Her paintings are usually bright and contain robotic figures or stick-like people. Judy is a 15-year-old bulimic teenager who sees herself as overweight. She likes to paint with a palette knife. There often seems to be a hidden, subtle meaning in her work. Suzy paints a picture on canvas and when finished scribbles over it. She has painted several pictures of a mother and baby.
