ABSTRACT

The "Unfaithful Brain" is the story of Anna Dartington, the psychotherapist, the social worker, the nurse, the writer, the poet, and a person with Dr Alois Alzheimer's Disease at 54 years of age. The progression of Alzheimer's Disease had meant for Anna that the smooth panelling of conversation was disrupted by lost words and fragmented sentences. Anna wanted to share her story, so that other people could learn about what it can be like to live with Alzheimer's Disease. Learning how Anna wanted her story told was based on developing a relationship with Anna in which there would be understanding and trust. The story is written in sections to reflect some of the fragmentation of the telling of the story, the flow of focus and distraction, and to break it down into smaller units of story that Anna could study and comment on.
