ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes that the place history has in the life cycle of valueled organizations. It discusses how organizational consultancy can become a more history-orientated discipline. The chapter argues that history in the consultants' domains can contribute to increasing choices in actionable knowledge for the consultant. Galaxy is a large voluntary organization with several subsystems providing social and health care and employment for disadvantaged people through the business models of the social enterprise and social firm. In 1998, Galaxy had seventeen members and ran two health and social care service provider units, two production units. The voluntary organization maintained the original name and would be engaged in leading and taking part in political and social campaigns aimed at promoting the values the original organization stood. The social enterprise took up a new name and would include all the sub-systems involved in delivering contracted out social and health care and one social firm.
