ABSTRACT

Christine Oliver's chapter focuses on the core interest of systemic practice in the relationship between context and meaning. It is interesting to note the moral dimension in the work of the team as a Christian-based organization and the interest in morality in the consultant they chose to help them find the meaning in their team dysfunction. In using the device of the title "making moments of significance work", this chapter has attempted to show how the systemic practitioner creates realities (with others) through her or his abilities to communicate and make sense of how communication works. The significant learning for the team in this case is potentially to treat communication in a wider context than the "personal" and to develop understanding and responsibility about the ways organizational structures and definitions facilitate abilities to relate and powers to act.
