ABSTRACT
The term fishbowl has been applied to a central small group sitting in a circle with a vacant chair and without a conductor. Someone who was in the audience wrote after the workshop that the author was apologizing for setting up the fishbowl. That, of course, was not the author intention, but she might have sounded hesitant. Another format consists of a central group that has the task of enacting or dramatizing a theme on behalf of the large group as a whole. The conductors would talk about their own personal experience of their small groups, their own feelings and anxieties. Towards the end of the morning session the conductors would ask the groups to appoint a representative to report to the plenary session after lunch. Most conductors did not say that this reporting would be done by the representatives sitting in a circle surrounded by the rest of the participants, who were asked to keep silent.
