ABSTRACT

Anne was a twelve-year-old girl who suffered from severe anorexia and depression, and was therefore admitted as an in-patient for treatment in a paediatric clinic. There they had been able to achieve a very slight increase in her weight but, despite intensive psychotherapeutic interviews and an additional course of antidepressant medication, no real change in her eating habits or in her markedly depressive mood. Thus the family and Anne herself decided to agree to longer-term psychotherapeutic treatment in our children’s ward.
