ABSTRACT

A lot of articles have illustrated the needs and aspirations that Chinese have invested in psychoanalysis, as well as the benefits and advantages the Chinese have gained from psychoanalysis. The confrontation with psychoanalysis has unavoidably stirred up a sense of turmoil and confusion, or even a sense of intrusiveness, discouragement, loss, and deficiency due to the state of instability of unsettled experience in the Chinese minds and in the historical context of China. Pragmatism highlights the attempt to underline the relativistic or pragmatic meaning by emphasising the immediate practical consequence of a certain knowledge rather than seeking the positivistic truth. The construction of hermeneutical circle may be considered as a solution of how to interpret Chinese experience within the psychoanalytic frame. The transformation opens the door to an expanding awareness and reflective consciousness, and approaches the consistency of the experience.
