ABSTRACT
Time and again, controversy has been fired in western civilisation by issues regarding relations between the sexes, reciprocal perception between genders, and both conscious and unconscious experience of one’s own and the other sex. Psychoanalytic concepts work on the assumption that for both sexes, confrontation with the anatomical difference plays a significant role in terms of developmental psychology. After developing a comparative character-analytic method they modified the psychoanalytic technique according to the local cultural traditions in the ethnie. Chinese psychiatrists and psychologists are becoming familiar with psychoanalytic therapy in a number of training courses, and in Beijing and Shanghai psychoanalytic training courses organised by the International Psychoanalytical Association have started. The epidemic initially presents as psychogenic state of emergency in young male adults who become terrorised that their penises could shrink and withdraw into their bodies with immediate fatal outcome.
