Conflict between extended families and couple identity in Taiwan—a psychoanalytic exploration

Historically, Taiwan has absorbed a great deal of western culture. Among these western elements, individualism is thought to be the most contrasting yet attractive idea for contemporary Taiwanese. However, unlike China where traditions were shattered by the Cultural Revolution (the idea of destroying the Four Olds), deep-rooted Confucianism remains the ruling ideology in Taiwanese society.
