ABSTRACT

The external dynamic is replicated in the internal world and then again projected outside into a couple relationship, with one person expressing the rejected part and another controlling and rejecting its expression. The shared unconscious phantasy of this couple took the form of a belief that only through their sexual reproductive organs could they attain the love and acceptance of another person. The abortion theme recurred in Mr A's dropping in and out of therapy and in the couple's repeated cancellations for frequent vacations. Mr A spent his life in a struggle trying to control the expression of a masculine strong part of himself that would force him to separate from his mother and becoming a sexual plaything in his sister's hands. Mrs A felt her lover had helped her stand the heart-breaking pain of her husband's confession. Mr A felt he was pushed into his homosexual affairs by her rejection of him as a sexual partner.
