ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case of burnout, then define forms and phases of burnout and differentiate different types of risk factors for burnout and their interaction with each other. It deals with some considerations about prevention and treatment of burnout. The chapter discusses what psychotherapy versus coaching would have meant whilst working with coaching client. The client can be characterized as a depressive personality with compulsive and narcissistic traits. The chapter describes both types of risk factors for burnout, making distinction between general and particular risk factors. Individuals with narcissistic personality traits are attracted to work for and show high "fit" into this type of organization, but they are also at particularly high danger of burnout. Depending on the individual form of burnout and the fundamental unconscious conflict patterns or personality styles at its root, it is essential to be able to differentiate and chose the most appropriate intervention.
