ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses psychodynamic considerations for diversity consultancy in organizations where the challenge to address wide-ranging issues of difference is paramount. Organizational consultancy can provide a range of services that could incorporate training, supervision, independent and impartial advice, direction, group facilitation, and mediation. Blurring the focus is a phenomenon highlighting the very confused way organizations can present their request for diversity consultancy. Killing time is a phenomenon that is indicative of unconscious dynamics at play in meeting difficulties of the organizational diversity challenge. Plans for diversity consultancy should involve examination of the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, and challenges. Organizational diversity initiatives present major challenges for providing adequate and culturally sensitive services to Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic groups. The mature group is a performing working entity that appears more purposeful in meeting the task of the organization. The group can be more creative in pursuing the organization’s goals.
