ABSTRACT

A psychology service consisting of the manager plus thirteen staff contacted the author to provide consultation to the service, which would involve several meetings. Marianne had a consultation in a small, fairly new school for the twelve children with behavioural difficulties. The head was getting tired of having to take too much responsibility. He could not understand this because he had engaged some very competent and responsible staff members. Using Semantic Polarities made it possible to change the focus from reproach to possibilities of cooperation. As the problem was visualized, everybody could be involved in their common goal and was able to contribute in various ways with their different attitudes and abilities. From the staff members’ point of view, people have seen examples in which the staff have great respect for the elevated manager as a clinician and respected colleague.
