ABSTRACT

Chris MacKenna’s first story—about the meeting where the participants discussed their spirituality and felt, as the day went on, wounded and outraged—is very telling. What Chris MacKenna has been talking to the therapists about the morning is at the opposite pole from the projection. It has been tremendously alive, and has offered no foregone conclusions. Chris shows them in his paper how “I believe in God” can be like the “I believe in you” sort of statement, and in that context the love and trust find their places quite naturally. In telling to the therapists about the early development of his faith, Chris is not talking about belief in God as in nitrogen. Chris has also said that he is a Christian. Chris MacKenna introduces therapists to Ana-Maria Rizzuto and William Meissner and then talks about C. G. Jung’s explorations of the links between psychotherapy and religion.
