ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the idea of salvation originally from the “rescue phantasy” that can operate in therapeutic situations when the therapist loses sight of the task and becomes involved in trying to save the patient from whatever psychic ill they may be experiencing. The politics of revelation is preoccupied with the conditions and resources for the exercise of transformation that come from inside the person or system and are brought about through the people revealing what may be the truth of their situation to themselves and taking authority to act on their interpretation. The chapter outlines ideas on the possible changes in consultancy practice from the politics of salvation to those of revelation. This is coming about through the changes in the methodologies employed, and the resultant conceptualizations of the natural sciences. The politics of salvation can be clearly seen in the missionary effort of the churches. The idea was to convert the heathen—that is, save them for Christ.
