ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the transference neurosis; specifically, the most recent classification system of the transference neurosis, as reviewed by Dr Davanloo. It defines three different types of transference neuroses. The chapter presents a case study of a patient who had a transference neurosis towards her former therapist. This type of transference neurosis resulting from a therapeutic relationship would be referred to as a treatment transference neurosis. Truly understanding what has been "transferred" in the transference neurosis only comes when the patient has repeated breakthroughs into the unconscious and the unconscious introduces the nature of the damage. The chapter explores both the transference neurosis due to treatment and the transference neurosis due to training in this twenty-first interview with the patient. The therapist knows that the destructive character resistance allowed for fertile ground in the development of the transference neurosis with the previous therapist.
