ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the use of work discussion in Casa Juconi, a home for street children in Mexico that the author had visited and kept in touch with regularly over the past eight years. The Special Times in Juconi House had to be adapted to the resources available. Those are as yet limited and therefore also limited is the amount of time the children have for Special Time, which is now a standard period of one year. In 1999, the author introduces for the first time the idea of “Special Times” with the individual children. These consisted in weekly encounters that took place in the same place at the same time for 45 minutes. Each child has a “Special Time” box with drawing materials, and so on. The chapter describes the danger of defences developed by some deprived children in the paper entitled “Doubly Deprived”.
