ABSTRACT

Considering the institutional context within which we exercised our individual working roles was a key part of trying to understand our own positions within organizations and the link between organizational and interpersonal dynamics. There are other opportunities for taking a psychoanalytically informed look at working roles and relationships, such as within personal analysis, individual or group therapy, group relations events, and clinical supervision for those doing clinical work. The nursery staff work discussion group has continued to meet regularly, and its existence is supported by senior school staff. A work discussion group or seminar offers for exploration a range of different working experiences, roles, and contexts. Significant differences can also emerge within a same-setting or same-discipline group, as the nursery staff group found. There is an opportunity to get to know and appreciate the way that others experience their professional roles and settings, as well as to learn to see and develop one’s own perspective.
