      ABSTRACT

There is now mounting evidence that intervening early in the course of psychosis (EP) is related to improved outcomes. However, attaining these positive outcomes requires addressing unique barriers to engaging an EP population. The challenges specific to engaging individuals with EP include two key factors: impaired insight and threats to personal recovery. An adapted version of Meta-cognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT) has been created to address the unique barriers to engaging individuals with EP, referred to as MERIT-EP. The adaptation of MERIT-EP and case examples from a randomized clinical trial are presented and discussed.
