ABSTRACT

Therapists confront unique challenges when working with individuals who are experiencing psychosis, given their mistrust and tendency to misread the intentions of others. A Mentalization-Based Therapy for psychosis (MBT-p) approach to the treatment of delusions attends specifically to the affective and interpersonal factors undergirding the delusion. MBT focuses on how individuals form ideas about self and other and explores how these ideas can negatively impact their social interactions with others. A case example will be provided to illustrate specific mentalization-based interventions relevant to working with individuals with delusions.
