ABSTRACT

A new vision of territory development in which actors are engaged in a collaborative relationship to foster a sustainable development of territories is emerging. Development must be economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable. These requirements are strongly interrelated and imply all the territorial actors be involved to ensure the sustainable development of territory. By analyzing banks’ communication strategies, it is possible to note that they ever more explicitly express their attention to the issues of territory, highlighting their role in promoting its sustainable development. On the basis of a literature review on the ecosystems view of sustainable development of territory and on the management of banks from a managerial and sustainability perspective. The chapter highlights the role of banks in promoting a sustainable development of territory and the opportunity of a transition toward a shared ecosystem view of territory development.
